Results from Community Poverty Reduction Survey

The results of this survey are organized around three guiding poverty reduction goals identified by our funder, Northwest Area Foundation.
The surveys were available online, in the Outpost newspaper and given out to various community groups over the course of 2 months.
These are the top 3 results from each of the identified goals:
Increased individual assest/wealth among low income people
  1. Financial literacy/education
  2. Promote reduced health care costs
  3. Promote energy savings
Increased community capacity to achieve sustainable prosperity
  1. Improve community communication
  2. Expand workforce training
  3. Improve community leadership skills
Improved public policy to reduce poverty
  1. Lower taxes for business start-ups
  2. Promote renewable energy
  3. Increase funding for early childhood education
When asked what one project, activity or strategy should we undertake to most reduce poverty and promote community prosperity, these were some of the suggestions:
  • Youth Activity Center/activities for kids
  • Active Community Center
  • Better transportation options
  • Create community effort to assist low income elderly & disabled with home maintenance and improved living standards
  • Educational opportunities
  • Create a business friendly environment
  • Develop more community park options
  • Increase access to resources
